This month’s theme: The human tree.
I normally get the clearest inspirations for these newsletters through shamanic journeying to the underworld. This is a mythical paradise, nurtured by the angelic presence of a spirit the Peruvians name Huascar.
When I asked Huascar for insight about the journey of humanity and how we might live in greater balance, I was shown a picture of a mature oak tree. I was shown 3 ways in which trees inspire us to live in greater balance and harmony with our environment.
With each of the 3 areas I have offered a brief explanation along with a harmonic sequence which is loaded with healing energy in that connection, in true Quantum K style. 1. Balance: Trees maintain balance between Spirit (the sun and the divine masculine) and the embodied world beneath us (the earth and the divine feminine). As a species, we are not always holding that balance, either living too much in the material world, or disconnected from life through a spiritual practice that leads to escape and lack of true presence. 2. Community: Trees exist in community. They support animals, the soil, the atmosphere and in doing so are nurtured back – for example by the birds and squirrels who spread their seeds. Their roots are linked through the mycelial network so they may look after each other and even nurture young saplings with extra nutrition as they establish themselves.
Trees are also well prepared for challenge. When strong winds arrive, (symbolic of the challenges of life) they tend to do so in the winter when the trees have shed their leaves. They are thus unburdened and able to respond with flexibility.
For us humans, the loss of true community means that many challenges are met in addition to normal activities and responsibilities, so we are fully covered in leaves when the storms arrive. Can we look after each other better? Can we help each other meet our challenges unburdened so we may respond more fluidly, and therefore more likely transcend the situation unscathed? 3. Legacy. In death, trees still nurture the planet through their legacy – a fallen tree supports fungi, insects and the soil as it decomposes and leaves a gap in the canopy for future generations to grow towards. In the bigger picture, Huascar showed me that the deforestation of the planet is a sign of our resistance to the incredible energy that trees represent. The disrespect we have for them is an external reflection of the disrespect we have for ourselves. We are literally cutting ourselves off from the air that we breathe in a tragic act of self-harm.
The positive side of this shadow aspect of human behaviour is that what was once an internal sabotage is now being shown clearly in the external world. This is how healing begins, the shadow piece must become conscious before it can be healed.
Huascar showed me seeds of new growth appearing in areas previously devoid of arboreal life. The suggestion was that this is one of many ways that humanity will show that it has transcended its shadow, so changes of behaviour taken from individual effort to national focus. We will see…
